Bale is a region with altitudes from 2,500 m to 4,377 m, a mountainous region with alpine lakes, rushing streams, several peaks and gorges. You will find moorlands, hills, alpine meadows, wildflowers and juniper forests as well as the distinct Sanetti Plateau, which is the largest of its altitude on the African continent and where you find Tulu Dimtu with its 4,377 m.
The Bale Mountains are an ideal environment for trekking, mountain walking, hiking, horse riding / treks, scenic driving and for views of endemic mammals such as the Mountain Nyala, the Menelik Bushbock and the endemic Ethiopian Wolf also known as Abyssinian or Simien Fox.

Addis Abeba and city tour
Welcome to Ethiopia, the land of natural and cultural diversity and home to ancient civilization!
Upon your arrival at Bole International Airport, you will be met by your guide of ZenAye Ethiopia Tours and transferred to your hotel. Then have a half-day city tour of the metropolis. You will visit the National Archaeological Museum, where you will view 3.18 million year old Lucy, our ancestor who was found in the Afar region in 1974. We will also visit the Ethnological Museum at Addis Abeba University, the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Africa’s largest open-air market called Merkato and Entoto Mountains, which offer a panoramic view of the capital.
Addis Abeba - Tiya Stelae - Adadi Mariam - Langano (~ 250 km)
After break quick drive to Tiya and Adadi Mariam. The Tiya Stelae, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an impressive archaeological site. Have lunch in Buta Jira and then head to Langano and enjoy the lake there. Overnight at hotel.
Langano - Bale Mountains - Dinsho (3,250 m)
Drive from Langano to Dinsho, the headquarters of Bale Mountains National Park. Half-day hike in Geysay Valley area and overnight at lodge.
Dinsho - Changeti - Wahoro (3,330 m)
Drive to Changeti (2,900 m) and trekking to Wahoro camp. The 3 to 4 hours hike gradually leads to the afro-mooreland of the Bale Mountains towards our campsite.
Wahoro camp - Angafu camp (3,460 m)
This 4 to 5 hours trekking passes through highland meadows below rocky mountain peaks. The views are excellent with opportunities to spot the endemic Mountain Nyala. Night at Angafu camp in the marvellous Bale Mountains National Park.
Adele (3,300 m)
Today only trekking of ~ 1 to 2 hours. This provides us with plenty of time to explore the surrounding peaks and waterfalls and enjoy the calm and beauty of the genuine nature of the Bale Mountains.
Angafu camp - Changeti camp (3,400 m)
This 4 to 5 hours trekking brings us back to the vehicles. We spend the night at Changeti.
Changeti - Dinsho - Goba
After breakfast ascent to Dinsho and then drive to Goba for overnight at hotel.
Sanetti Plateau - Tulu Dimtu (4,377 m)
Drive to the Sanetti Plateau to view the Lobelia and the endemic Ethiopian Wolf, also known as Abyssinian or Simien Fox. Then trek or drive to the summit of Tulu Dimtu, one of the tallest mountains of Ethiopia. Later in the day drive back to Goba for another overnight.
Goba - Hawassa (220 km)
Drive to Hawassa. Visit the Rift Valley Lakes en route. Arrival in Hawassa, a busy, young and up-and-coming town. Welcoming programme and dinner. Later overnight at your hotel.
Free time to relax in Hawassa. Enjoy seasonal activities: e.g. participate in a group run, visit the cultural exhibits at the Haile Resort, enjoy the Sidama New Year celebrations, have a walk at the lake shore or simply do some shopping or relax. Dinner downtown and overnight at your hotel.
Hawassa - Senkelle Sanctuary - Langano (185 km)
After breakfast explore the fishmarket of Hawassa. Then head to Senkelle Swayne’s Hartebeest Sanctuary to visit the endemic Swayne’s Hartebeest and take a bird-watching tour. In the afternoon head to Langano for overnight at hotel.
Langano - Addis Abeba (200 km)
Drive back to the metropolis. Upon arrival in Ethiopia’s capital we will have time for some refreshments. Optional souvenir shopping if time permits.
In the evening have a complimentary farewell dinner at a traditional Ethiopian restaurant with live music and dancing show and later on be transferred to Bole International Airport for your departure or extended programme.
