Addis Abeba and city tour
Welcome to Ethiopia, the land of natural and cultural diversity and home of ancient civilization!
Our representative will meet you at Bole International Airport in Addis Abeba and take you to your hotel. Then half-day city tour of the capital with panoramic view over the metropolis from Entoto Mountains, Africa’s largest open-air-market Merkato and visit of the National Museum with replica of Lucy, our 3.18 million year old ancestor, a fossil of a female Australopithecus afarensis found in the Afar Region in 1974. Spend the night at the capital before your adventure will begin.
Addis Abeba - Arba Minch (505 km)
Early morning drive to Arba Minch via Hosanna with a lunch break in Sodo Wolayta. Part of the road passes along the Rift Valley. The area along the way is populated with Oromo, Gurage, Kembata, Hadia and Wolayta people. After lunch visit of the Dorze village and society on the hill near Chencha. Check-in at hotel in Arba Minch in the late afternoon.
Arba Minch - Konso - Turmi (285 km)
Drive from Arba Minch via Konso to Turmi. On the way visit of villages of Erbore and Weyto (Erbore and Tsemay people). After arrival at Turmi visit of the market place and the Hamer people and their customs. Market days in South Ethiopia are not only commercial but also social events attracting hundreds of people from nearby villages.
Excursion: Kolcho or Dus (140 km)
Drive from Turmi to the southern village of Omorate near the Kenyan border. We cross the Omo River in a local dugout boat and walk to the village of the Dassanech people. Then return on the same way to Turmi.
Turmi - Key Afar - Jinka (180 km)
Drive to Jinka, a town of Ari people via Key Afar (Banna people) with a visit to the local market where you can meet Banna and Hamer people, as well as other tribes of the South Omo area. In Jinka visit of the local ethnographic museum which displays artefacts of the local tribes - the Ari, Hamer, Mursi, Hana Bodi and others. Accommodation at a simple local hotel.
Jinka - Mago NP - Mursi tribe - Jinka (240 km)
Today we visit the Mursi people. They are well-known for the unique custom of lip plates where their women on reaching maturity have clay discs inserted in their lower lips. Proceed to Mago National Park and then drive back to Jinka in the late afternoon.
Jinka - Arba Minch (240 km)
In the morning after a relaxing breakfast drive back to Arba Minch, the regional center of the region. On the way enjoy the various tribes of the Lower Omo valley, Tsemay, Banna, Ari and Konso people, lunch at Konso. Upon arrival at your hotel refresh yourself and later on have a barbeque in the garden of your hotel.
Arba Minch - Langano (330 km)
Drive from Arba Minch to one of the resorts at Lake Langano. Check-in at hotel. In the afternoon you will have free time to relax or take a walk at the lake shore, watch birds and wildlife or just enjoy a fine macchiato.
Langano - Addis Abeba (200 km)
In the morning: breakfast and some free time to spend at your ease. In the afternoon - after a journey with lots of game viewing, wildlife and nature - you will finally drive back to the busy metropolis with its hustle and bustle. If time allows, you can go to do some souvenir shopping in town or just refresh yourself before the evening programme starts.
You will be offered a farewell dinner at a traditional Ethiopian restaurant, enjoy food, music and dance of various ethnic groups and then be transferred to Bole International Airport for your departure or further programme.
